July Q+A
Let's catch up!!!
Hi! OK I feel like I’ve been a little MIA on here and IG stories lately and it’s for good reason I promise!
We’ve been in the midst of a big big life change (you’ll be the first to know I swear!), adding a pea gravel courtyard with Belgian block to my Hillbrook House (what a labor of love it was, but so worth it - full tour coming next month), and winding down my clothing brand Everyone Loves The Weekend (why + more details at the bottom of this post.)
July Q+A
Where do you buy most of your Missoni? Websites or their store?
I order most of my Missoni pieces online here OR get them at one of their beautiful boutiques when I’m in Italy. PS you can still get my Missoni kaftan here and here.
All time fave spot with hubby in US and international?
US: Palm Beach and Nantucket (off season!)
International: St. Tropez (off season!)
Love your style and trust your opinion. Thinking of buying my first Chanel slingback pumps - which color would you get?
Thank you! SO exciting - I would get the classic tan + black two tone color way. You’ll wear with everything and have forever. This is another option if you’re looking for something under $300.
Fave rosé recommendations?
I love Chateau Minuty rosé - it’s soooo light and refreshing. You should be able to find it anywhere. They have several kinds, but their classic “M” rosé is my go-to and an amazing price point.
Plan or goals for the next 5 years? :)
Hopefully checking the box on one big goal/plan soon! - but other than that - the older I get, the less inclined I am to look/plan that far ahead. Which is WEIRD for me to be saying since I’m such an eldest daughter, planner. I guess I just feel very content and grateful for everything I have in my life right now and I want to really savor it. Is this what you call a “stop and smell the roses” era? haha Can any other overachiever, Type A, eldest daughter relate to just wanting to be more present?!
If we have 10 nights in Italy, where should we go?!
If you’ve never done the Amalfi coast - that is such a wonderful place to spend 10 days. Go to Rome, Capri, and Positano! If you’ve already done the Amalfi Coast, then do Tuscany, Florence and then one of the seaside towns that’s driving distance from there like Forte dei Marmi or Portofino.
What is your ethnicity?
I’m half Japanese and half Irish :)
What breed is Charlie? He is the cutest and my little pups do so well on Farmer’s Dog too <3
He is a rescue dachshund terrier from Vanderpump Dogs in LA! It’s wild to me that he is already 9 years old. Pssst here’s a 60% off link for your next Farmer’s Dog order.
If you’re surrounded by people who have kids, do you ever struggle being childfree?
The courtyard is going to be perfect! Can you tell me what kind of stones you are using on the perimeter? I have a very similar space and love this border. Thank you!
I can’t wait to show you! Yes we used these classic grey Belgian blocks from Lowe’s - FYI they deliver.
Is your new necklace the miraculous medal of Mary? I love it. Are you Catholic?
Thank you! Here is the info on my necklace. I was raised Episcopalian, but I don’t consider myself a super religious person - I would say I’m more spiritual now!
Ok the thing you did with Ancestry.com looked so cool - how did they get photos of your dad and relatives from their high school yearbooks?
I was blown away by what I found out about my family dating back generations on Ancestry.com - it literally gave me chills. I was able to see my great-grandfather’s actual immigration papers from Sapporo, Japan. I created an account and linked my family tree with Thomas’ family tree. From there we were able to go in and scan their database to connect with other family members, and then they also auto-pulled photos from yearbooks and newspaper clippings from Newspaper.com. My dad’s high school yearbook photos were too cute right?!
Why are you shutting down your brand?
It’s bittersweet to be shutting down my clothing brand, but between the 150% tariffs that came out of the blue in our first year of business, rising shipping costs, and the additional custom + duties fees that are now tacked onto all customer international orders - it just does not make sense to continue pouring time and money into it. I’m sending SO MUCH love to all of the other businesses out there trying to navigate this ever changing landscape! It is not easy! I will forever be grateful to every single one of you who showed up to our trunk shows, shopped with us, and styled our pieces so beautifully. Thank you thank you!
Everything is under $100 so highly recommend snagging something you’ve been eyeing before we close for good at the end of the season!
Best honest advice on bootstrapping a biz and maximizing budget.
Going to do a huge separate post with every single thing I wish I knew and everything I did - here’s some brutally honest insight to start with. Stay tuned.
On a more joyful note we leave for Tuscany this weekend and I am SO READY for some vinoooo, vineyard hopping and exploring! This is where we’re staying.
PS I’m extending the Nantucket giveaway for 2 more weeks - just like my Nantucket Guide post so I know you’ve entered. xx Kat

Hi Kat
I’m impressed with such a prompt response!! Yes I’d be thrilled to purchase your book. I’m from Canada (British Columbia) does that matter?
Thank you again
Cheers 🥰 Barb
Hi Kat thank you for your great info on your trips. I’ve been following you for awhile and as a “interior home enthusiast” I was wondering if you would ever publish a book with pictures and design tips of your home?!
